Ke Zhang was born in China and moved to the United Kingdom in 2008. Influenced by her family, she developed a strong interest in drawing and painting from an early age, later becoming particularly drawn to classical and representational art. After completing a PhD in the study of human behaviour, Ke's enduring fascination with visual perception and the nature's beauty led her to transition from behavioural science to representational art—where empirical observation converges with artistic sensitivity.
Ke began her formal training in representational art in 2016 through private study with Sarah Margaret Gibson. She later enrolled at the Glasgow Academy of Fine Art when it was founded in 2019. After graduating in 2021, Ke joined the faculty as Principal Instructor, contributing to the academy’s classical training programmes across all levels. In 2024, her teaching role transitioned to Adjunct Instructor following her relocation to Oxford, England.
Alongside her keen interest in painting techniques and a sensitivity to light and colour, Ke is drawn to the ways visual representation can quietly reflect the complexity of human perception. Her background in behavioural science informs a considered, empirical approach to observation, while her artistic choices remain attentive to the delicacy of aesthetic experience and the subtle presence of atmosphere. She sees representational art as a space where beauty emerges through visual harmony and structure, independent of language.
Now based in Oxford, England, Ke divides her time between her home studio and a studio in West London. She regularly produces new work for galleries, accepts commissions, and continues to teach privately.
